London is Good to Grow: local food gardens open to the public this April

Community gardens will welcome the public for a series of free events and activities as part of London’s Good to Grow week, this 18-26 April.

Capital Growth helps to kick off the spring growing season, with over 80 garden events and activities taking place across the capital, including seed swaps, plants sales, lunches, walks, talks, life drawing, clay making and bug hunts.

We're thrilled to see so many great events this year and hope that it will inspire more poeple to venture out and discover the special people and places that are growing food and creating a greener, kinder, more resilient city"

Join a gardening session

Volunteering at a is community garden is an uplifting way to connect with nature, grow your own, have fun with your neighbours and connect with the land. There are so many volunteer sessions to choose from during the festival, so find your local patch and get stuck in!

Building a Right to Grow

We are thrilled to see the momentum from Right to Grow reflected in our festival program with Brent Food Growers Network gathering for the first time, and Hackneys Right to Grow group organisation a mass plant out activity around the borough.

Family fun

There will be family friendly fun with Superworm activities at Wild Cat Wilderness Soil Festival, after-school bug huntsd at Dawsons Heights in Newham and orchard adventures across the city including the Meadow Orchard Project and South Woodford Urban orchard.

Nature and ecology

Want to learn more about citizen science and the insects living in food growing sites? Lots of gardens have got involved with our Big City Bug Hunt this year. The critter curious can head down to Cecil Sharp House Permaculture Garden in Camden, Trinty Patch in Barnet, The Garden Classroom in Islington, the UP Garden in Newham, and many more to join in the fun.

Market garden revival

Discover food growing enterprises on the outskirts of the city that are producing food and flowers at scale whilst also supporting green skills in the city. Sitopia Farm in Greenwich will be hosting an open day with lunch, talks and tours so you can learn more about agroecology and regenerative thinking.

In the north visit the Wolves Lane Centre for their Spring Market – explore the impressive glasshouses and eco-buildings, buy produce and plants grown on site, enjoy a plant-based lunch and join a workshop.
